James Franco on Girls
this is the writer for Girls that responded to the criticisms about the lack of representation of women of color in Girls with “I didn’t see myself represented in Precious”
*points to throat and makes gagging noises*
I think the point she was trying to make was not everyone can be represented ALL THE FUCKING TIME.
Um… Why not? That show is shot in greenpoint, bk which has a mix of all kinds of people. Yet she only represents white people…
…are you serious? Goodbye.
Are you unable to back up your opinion or what? I really don’t see anything wrong with not being represented 100% of the time in every form of art or entertainment. Why do you find that so ridiculous?I find it ridiculous because it’s an inaccurate representation of modern day New York! To represent Brooklyn that way is white washing a very diverse neighborhood. I don’t think that all people need to be represented 100% of the time in every form of art or entertainment, but my statement wasn’t pertaining to every form of art or entertainment. It was pertaining to this show specifically. Maybe you’re right, not everyone CAN be represented all of the time, but that doesn’t mean that this writer and whoever the director is had to cast ALL white people for this show.
First of all, not all of the characters on this show are white.
Second, Lena Dunham is not trying to represent New York. She is representing the life of Hannah Horvath, who is loosely based on her.
Hey, let me just quote the writer of the show:
""Nigger" is a great word. It just packs so much punch. The two g’s next to each other are like literal two G’s, broin’ out, tough as nails, them against the world. It gives me chills that a word can hold so much power, it really makes me feel like I chose the right profession." - Lesley Arfin
I’m not sure how can you back her up after that? I checked IMDB and the longest someone who wasn’t white has been on the show is 4 episodes. If a show is set in New York then obviously you’re going to try and represent it (especially seeing how Lena Dunham was born in New York).

A MUST read by Chicago Teachers Union president Karen Lewis. Standardized testing isn’t about improving education, it’s a way for the system to sort out which kids are meant to succeed and which are destined failure.
